Agartala, Feb 13: Opposition leader Animesh Debbarma today expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Manik Saha for considering the aspiration of the tribal by directing the Tripura Board of School Education (TBSE) to maintain status quo on Kokborok subject.
The Tipra Motha leader also demanded that Kokborok be made a compulsory subject in Tripura board. He opined that these will strengthen the relationship between tribal and non-tribal communities.
Several student organisation led of Tipra Indigenous Student Front (TISF) had called for indefinite strike demanding use of Roman script for writing Kokborok subject. Following the decision of the government to allow student to write Kokborok subject in either Bengali or Roman script, the student bodies have called off their protest.
Addressing the media this afternoon, Debbarma thanked student organisation viz., TISF, TSF, NSUI and TYF and Bengali scholars for supporting the cause of Roman script for Kokborok. He also expressed his regret for disturbing normal life by calling the protest.
“Question paper should be in both the language and we urge the government to take steps to ensure that the Kokborok textbook are published in both Bengali and Roman editions,” Debbarma said.
“The confusion was created by the president of TBSE, which led to political crisis. CBSE has also accepted the request by allowing student to write Kokborok in either Bengali or Roman script”, Debbarma added.
He also informed that the Tipra Motha will begin its stir on several issues against the government on unemployment, recruitment of STGT, TET and other local issues.
“We have cautioned the government and if the government does not act, we shall agitate”, he said.
Drawing a comparison to TBSE president Dr Dhananjoy Gonchowdhury’s act to that of
Muhammad bin Tughluq, he said, “There is no future of the TBSE under him and the government should remove from his post.”
On greater Tipraland demand, he said, “TIPRA Motha will never compromise with the issue. If we wanted, we could have taken ministerial berth in the government but we have stick to our demand”.
On demand by Hindu organisation in Tripura to made Saraswati puja mandatory in all schools across Tripura, Debbarma said, “Such diktat is defaming the government of Dr. Manik Saha and we will apprise Chief Minister on the matter”.
