Travel and security protocols during Presidential visits: Everything you need to know

New Delhi, Jan 12: The President of India, holds the highest constitutional office in India. The President serves as the foremost citizen of the country. A serious and strict safety protocols are in place for every visit, involving meticulous preparations and dedicated transportation arrangements to ensure the President’s security during journeys.

Presidents travel protocols:

There are two types of protocols-Public and Official-

1. Public Visit: When a new President assumes office, their initial visit is regarded as a public event.

2. Official Visit: Any travel undertaken by the President of the country is categorised as an official visit.

President’s pre-determined schedule:

It must be known that the President of India follows a pre-established schedule during visits, adhering to a set protocol. Any alterations, shift to the schedule, whether in cities or villages, are not permitted. Also, the attendance for each event is pre-determined, allowing only pre-approved guests to participate. The guest list is curated and expanded only upon approval from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Who can be included in the President’s event: 

Only selected individuals including high-ranking officials such as the Chief Minister of the State, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Inspector General, Secretary (Political), Secretary to the Government (Political), Commissioner of Police, District Collector, and Senior Officers of Defence Services can take part in any presidential event.

Upon arrival, the President is welcomed by the Governor and the Chief Minister at the airport.

President’s transport 

The President’s mode of transportation is a highly specialised Mercedes S-Class (S-600) Pullman Guard car. The vehicle comes with bulletproof, well equipped with advanced ballistic protection features. The car also features an emergency fresh air system for supplying oxygen during critical situations and a night view assist for seamless navigation in the dark.

It must also be noted that the entire cost of the President’s visit is covered by the government exchequer.
