Agartala, Feb 16: Former Tripura chief minister and CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar on Thursday alleged that BJP-backed miscreants attacked polling agents of Left Front in many places under Dhanpur assembly constituency.

Speaking to media persons after casting his vote in Agartala, Manik Sarkar said, “Polling agents of Left Front were not allowed to enter the polling stations and whoever tried to enter came under attack.”

“In many areas BJP backed miscreants tried to prevent voters. We immediately informed the chief electoral officer (CEO). We also contacted the additional returning officer (AROs) but were unable to contact. Another ARO told us that they can’t handle small things as he is in a strong room,” Sarkar alleged.

He said such incidents have also taken place in parts of Udaipur and Belonia.

Meanwhile, as polling for the assembly elections in Tripura is underway, 40 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the State till 12 pm on Thursday.
