Agartala, Apr 26: Hindu Jagaran Manch (HJM) on Tuesday filed a police complaint at Radhakishorepur police station in Tripura against 23-year-old YouTuber Bapan Nandi for acting in a music video on Eid.

Nandi, a resident of Tripura’s Gomati district.

The video purportedly cast Hindu girls as Muslim and showed them dancing to a Bengali song produced by another YouTuber.

“We have filed an FIR against one Bapan Nandi because he had viral many videos on social media which insulted the Hindu religion. Through his video he tried to project ‘Love Jihad’. He was supported by one Muslim guy to shoot the videos. The videos have insulted our religion. We have told him not to make such videos and viral such videos which have insulted the Hindu religion but he told us that he will make such video,” said a member of Hindu Jagran Manch.

The controversy started with one Siddique Hossain, a YouTuber from Agartala, wanting to shoot a video to release on Eid this year. Recounting his “harrowing experience”, Nandi said he is a professional YouTuber and content creator who has his presence on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.

Bapan Nandi said he was summoned by the police and is expected to make himself available at the Radhakishorepur police station on Wednesday.

“I’m a Hindu myself and I would never disrespect my religion. I believe my religion is the best but it is fine for actors to act in cinemas. How is it a crime?” he said.
