Agartala, Jan 19: Within hours of announcement of poll dates by Election Commission, at least a dozen people including All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Dr. Ajay Kumar were injured in a series of clashes allegedly between ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition Congress supporters at Mohanpur and Jirania sub-divisions of West Tripura district on Wednesday.

Congress had taken out a motorcycle rally when the clashes took place, according to police sources.

Now, videos of the incident have surfaced where one can see Congress leader Dr. Ajay Kumar, who was riding one of the motorcycles, in a heated exchange of words with Tripura BJP heavy weight and cabinet minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

After the incident on Wednesday, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman had arrived at the AGMC and GB hospital to inquire about the health condition of their party workers. He alleged that large numbers of BJP supporters were present during the clash and police remained a mute spectator.

“A BJP minister was leading the attack on the opposition. We demand that the election commission separately conducts poll in five constituencies including the Majlishpur constituency where the incident took place today,” the Congress MLA alleged.
