Agartala, June 2: Continuous torrential rainfall has triggered widespread flooding across Tripura, displacing thousands and forcing over 7,000 people to seek refuge in 34 temporary relief camps set up in schools and government buildings.
The state capital, Agartala, experienced sudden and severe waterlogging late on Saturday night, forcing many residents to evacuate their homes with little warning. Several affected individuals reported being caught off guard by the rapid rise in water levels, having to leave behind valuable belongings and essential documents.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the 34 relief camps across Tripura are now housing more than 7,000 displaced individuals. The state government, alongside local volunteers, is actively providing food and drinking water to those sheltering in the camps.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for West Tripura and Khowai districts, forecasting more rain accompanied by gusty winds. An orange alert remains in effect for the remaining six districts, keeping the entire state on high alert as authorities continue to monitor the escalating situation.
