Tripura: Two accused of rape and murder of minor girl awarded death penalty by Special Court

Agartala, Oct 4: Two person involved in rape and murder of a minor girl in 2019 have been handed death sentence by Special Court in North Tripura’s Dharmanagar on Thursday.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Sudarshan Sharma confirmed that the individuals, identified as Dibakar Das from Dharmanagar and Sourabh Chandra Nath from Kanchanpur, have received the death penalty.

The case, bearing registration number 2019WDN020 and dated June 18, 2019, was filed at the Dharmanagar Women’s police station under sections 302/201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It stemmed from a written complaint by the victim’s mother, reporting her minor daughter missing on May 17, 2019. Tragically, the young girl’s lifeless body was discovered on June 18, 2019, at Halflong Tea Estate.

The investigation was diligently conducted by Women Sub-Inspector Sanchita Nath from Dharmanagar Women PS. Following a thorough inquiry, the Investigating Officer (IO) filed the Charge-Sheet on November 28, 2019, under sections 363/376 DB/302/201 IPC, and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused individuals, Dibakar Das and Sourabh Chandra Nath, who were to stand trial in an open court of law.

Both accused were apprehended, and during interrogation, they confessed to the heinous crime of raping and murdering the girl.
