Tura, June 2: A potentially major mishap was averted in West Garo Hills district after a goods-carrying truck transporting scrap materials caught fire near Chasingre in the early hours of Tuesday.

The truck, bearing registration number ML-08K-4375, was travelling from Tura towards Krishnai when flames reportedly broke out from the scrap materials loaded in the vehicle’s carriage.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with police and other emergency responders, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. The blaze was swiftly brought under control before it could spread further or damage the vehicle.

Officials said no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, and the truck also escaped major damage due to the prompt response of the emergency teams.

Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
