U-15 Inter District Cricket: EGH hold off NGH; Ri-Bhoi storm to win over SCA-B

Shillong, March 18: East Garo Hills (EGH) District Cricket Association and Ri-Bhoi District Cricket Association won their respective matches in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s (MCA) U-15 Inter District Cricket Tournament 2023 on Saturday.

While EGH beat North Garo Hills (NGH) District Cricket Association by six wickets in Zone 2 in Williamnagar, Ri-Bhoi won by a massive 158 runs against Shillong Cricket Association-B in Zone 1’s Umbuda.

Resuming on 5/0 in response to NGH’s 40 all out, EGH were restricted to 92, with Chanang Sangma top-scoring with 50 from 53 deliveries. Chingjring K Marak (3/14) and Tengrik Sangma (3/18) shone with the ball.

NGH put up a better show in their second innings but were still out for 108, with 18 being the top score from the No. 11 batter Henry Yoga A Sangma. Namgrik K Sangma bagged an impressive 6/35. This left EGH a target of 57 for victory and they managed it with six wickets in hand. Chanang again topped the charts with 19 not out.

In the other match, on Friday, Ri-Bhoi made 177 and SCA-B 104 in their respective first innings. Beginning their second innings on Saturday, Ri-Bhoi then made 138 all out, benefitting from a half-century by Gaurav Narleng (62 from 56), with Joseph Mathew (5/28) claiming a five-wicket haul.

SCA-B were thus set a target of 212 for victory but they were reduced to 17/7 thanks to some superlative bowling by their opponents. Navneet Sah, the only batter to get into double figures, put up some resistance in an innings of 34 but SCA-B were dismissed for just 53 in the end. The wickets were shared out by Sanjay Sawkuta (4/21), Suraj Kapri (3/14) and Benedict Jones Makdoh (2/9).

The next matches will begin on Monday. In Zone 1 East Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association will go up against West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association while Zone 2 will witness West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association face South Garo Hills District Cricket Association.
