‘UDP to field good numbers of candidates for upcoming GHADC election’: Metbah

Shillong, Feb 16: United Democratic Party (UDP) chief Metbah Lyngdoh said that the party will field a good number of candidates for the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), scheduled to be held on April 9.

Lyngdoh, also currently the Assembly Speaker, had recently visited and held meetings at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills district and Baghmara, South Garo Hills.

So far, the party has announced the names of three candidates for the GHADC polls.

“We are still inviting applications from all those who are interested to contest from UDP and we have a good response. The last date for submission of applications will be on February 23,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Monday.

Asked, the UDP president however said the party is going to field candidates from many seats.“

We will be able to tell you after February 23 but we will be putting up good numbers of candidates this time,” he stated.

Further, Lyngdoh also informed that the party has constituted a committee for coming up with the election manifesto. The committee will decide on the issues to be taken up during the elections.
