Delaying on the implementation of ILP seems to be a mockery, says Ampareen

Shillong, Feb 16: Expressing disappointment over the repeated postponing of discussion on the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state by the centre, Congress legislator Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh said the entire postponement of the discussion on ILP for the state now seems to be a mockery.

“We still do not know where this is going to lead to,” she said.

The former minister said all the while there was this appeal and this necessity made out to be that all 60 MLAs should go to Delhi to meet the union home minister Amit Shah to discuss and press forward on the matter of ILP.

“Following that, we are told that several members of the cabinet also took off for Delhi in an attempt to once again put pressure on the government of India to atleast tell us whether or not we are going to get the ILP or if we were being denied the ILP what were the reasons but even that has not taken off. But we have heard from the CM press briefing that it seems they were concentrating their discussion along the MRSSA. So it is still very unfortunate as now again they are given themselves another deadline for sometime in March,” she said.

Lyngdoh continued, “We in the Congress, because we were privilege to be part of the governments in the past were already told in many words that ILP would not be something which Meghalaya should implement but then when we argued with the UPA at that time, it made it look like it was a little different in terms of the legal background of the implementation of ILP in the state of Meghalaya.”

“But after CAA was announced and after Manipur themselves who were also facing similar legal problems like the state of Meghalaya were given ILP then we kind of taken aback, so we feel, therefore, we need to revisit the ILP agenda and that was why the Congress unanimously along with all 60 MLAs decided to support a government resolution,” she added.

Lyngdoh said that the announcement that the state will have to wait till the month of March for discussion on ILP is very disappointing.
