The surrender of the high-ranking insurgent marks a significant setback for the proscribed outfit and a major development in ongoing peace initiatives and counter-insurgency operations in the region.

Considered a close aide of ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah, Dohotia has been part of the group’s top military leadership. He was responsible for disseminating the faction’s communications — including emails and video messages of Paresh Baruah — to media houses.

Dohotia has been linked to several major militant activities. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has named him a key conspirator in a series of grenade attacks targeting Army installations in Tinsukia and Jorhat districts in 2023 and 2024.
