Water in petrol rumour: BS6 fuel with higher ethanol-petrol blend scares vehicle owners

Must read

Shillong, June 8: After the aggressive allegations circulated via social media regarding the mixture of water with petrol, the Petroleum Dealers Association of Meghalaya (PDAM) on Wednesday clarified that the allegations made are totally incorrect.

“This year in the month of February the Ministry of Petroleum has started producing petrol product which is blended with ethanol. Ethanol is a substance mixed with petroleum to decrease the pollution emission lesser to nil. This substance is mixed at a ratio of 10% in petrol fuels,” stated Mike Nampui, the Vice President of PDAM.

He further clarified that ethanol being an environmental friendly substance also has its cons. Ethanol absorbs moisture from the vehicles, which is pre-blended with fuel when filled in the vehicle tank which hasn’t been cleaned, thereby increasing the water retention in the petroleum quality.

He also appealed to the public to be aware of the nature of petrol which is mixed with ethanol. The association also announced the liberty of each individual to check the content of the fuel from the nozzle before it is poured into the vehicle, which shall not be the responsibility of the dealers but of the consumer alone.
