West Jaiñtia Hills observes National Consumer Day

Jowai, Dec 21: The National Consumer Day was on Tuesday observed at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai attended by Deputy Commissioner Garod LSN Dykes, Additional Deputy Commissioner, D D Syngai, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Supply) A. Mukhim and Extra Assistant Commissioner, E.Mawlong. President of District Commission, B. Khriam, dealers and wholesalers were also present.

Highlighting on the importance of the day Deputy Commissioner, LSN Dykes said that there are three parties in the marketing system, working in collaboration with one another. The government controls the prices, sellers sell their goods and services in accordance with the price fixed by the government, however, the buyers have the right to choose the goods as they like.

The Deputy Commissioner also released a brief video clip on the Consumers rights.President of District Commission, West Jaiñtia Hills, B. Khriam, spoke on the rights of the consumers and adviced the consumers to always ask for cash memos or a receipt while making a purchase and in case of dissatisfaction with the purchase, the dissatisfied consumers can always file a complaint directly with the District Commissioner. She further informed that the Commission looks into the matters for free of cost.

Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Supply) A. Mukhim, in his welcome address, informed the day is being observed to create awareness among the customers of their rights and responsibilities.
