Will take all stakeholders on board before deciding on railway projects: Conrad

SHILLONG, Oct 15: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said the state government will take all stakeholders on board before deciding to go ahead with the implementation of the railway projects in the state.

Stating that the issue has been pending for a very long time, Sangma told reporters that one cannot expect that such an issue can be resolved in one day or in a matter of a year.

“It takes time as it is complicated but we are taking steps…by taking people along and by addressing their concerns that they have, by creating systems so that they can be comfortable in the entire process we will take all stakeholders on board and decide on how to move things forward,” he said.

It may be mentioned that the Centre has proposed two railway projects in the state – the 22 km Tetelia-Byrnihat tracks and the 108 km Byrnihat-Shillong line.

The Tetelia-Byrnihat project will be implemented at a cost of Rs 496 crore. However, these projects have faced roadblocks due to strong opposition from different quarters apprehending influx.
