Tura, Jan 30: Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP National President, Conrad K. Sangma, on Monday urged the voters of South Tura to look at the history and background of each candidate and decide before they cast their vote on February 27 to elect their representative to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. He pointed out to the people of South Tura that they are not just voting an MLA but also voting for the Chief Minister of the state.

“South Tura voters are not only voting for your MLA but also voting for the Chief Minister of the state. Your vote will create a ripple effect not just in Tura and Garo Hills but as well as the entire state because your decision will have a binding effect in the next government formation,” Sangma said to a crowed of over 5000 supporters at the launch of his election campaign at New Tura Law College field in South Tura on Monday.

“When you cast your vote South Tura will witness a change in favour of development. Your vote will also give benefit for development of places like Siju, Williamnagar, entire Garo Hills, and even Khasi Hills. Your vote has already helped benefit places like Rongjeng where we were able to create its sub-division after a demand of more than 30 years. The people of Rongjeng not only thanked Conrad Sangma but also thanked the people of South Tura for voting him in,” reminded the Chief Minister.

Settle disputed land issues in Tura

He also told the gathering that it was his party and his government that helped settle disputed land issues in Tura. He said NPP took the crucial decision to ensure that people, who had been staying in government land for many years and had nowhere else to go, were finally given land and peace of mind in a win-win situation for both the government and the settlers.

“We ensured a balanced decision in which public utility will be safeguarded and the settlers are not evicted out of their homes,” he said.
