Jowai, Nov 22: In connection with the unfortunate turn of events on Sunday afternoon in which two children were charred to death at Lumpyrdi in Ummulong under West Jaiñtia Hills, the youth of Lumchyrtoh village on Monday urged the Government to set up a Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) at Ummulong.
“The incident yesterday (Nov 21, 2021) was preventable only if the Fire and Emergency Services department was near… only if the Fire brigade came on time we could have saved two precious lives,” said the youth representative.
Urging the Government and the concerned department, the Youth of Lumchyrtoh said the setting up of Fire and Emergency Service or atleast a sub centre in the area will be of great help to the people of Ummulong if such incidents occur in future.
Two brothers lost their lives on Sunday after a fire gutted their house at Lumpyrdi, Ummulong. Parents of the deceased, Mansoki Challam (mother) and Junom Suna (father), were not present in the house and only the children were inside and the house was locked from outside as the mother had gone to wash the clothes and the father had gone to fetch her from the stream.
