20 Futsal courts to come up across state, 700 Crore given for sports, says CM

Shillong, March 08: Meghalaya government is going to set up as many as 20 Futsal courts in different parts of the state as it gives special emphasis for the youth and sports to which funds to the tune of Rs 700 Crore have so far been allocated for various sporting infrastructure, informed Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma while laying the base for construction of a Futsal playground at Madan Shnong playground in the city’s Lower Mawprem area.

Sports and Youth Affairs minister, Shakliar Warjri and Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh also attended the foundation laying ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the government remains committed to the youth and youth affairs with the sports sector being the key sector among them.

“In the last few years we have allocated around 700 crores for different sports infrastructures and more than 300 sports infrastructures are continuously being created of which 122 projects have been completed in the last three years,” he said adding that as many as 20 such Futsal courts will come up across the State.

The Chief Minister also said that the government is keen to build platforms for the youth of the state through different programs like Skills Meghalaya, YESS Meghalaya, PRIME, CM Elevate etc.

He also informed that with the establishment of Mawkhanu Sports Complex for which 350 crores is allocated, Sports in the State will be given a major boost.

“With the completion of the Mawkhanu Sports Complex we will be able to host any kind of national and international events in the State of Meghalaya,” he said.

He added that through the STAR Program Talent Scouting will continue and more events for exposure and development of athletes for the upcoming 6th Meghalaya Games in Jowai and for the National Games will be held in the future.
