Agartala, Aug 5: Over 300 surrendered militants from various extremist outfits began a 48-hour hunger strike to demand their rehabilitation and other rights. The militants, including members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), and Bru National Council of Tripura (BNCT), initiated the strike in the Manu-Manpui area of Kanchanpur, North Tripura.
The militants had previously informed Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha about their planned agitation on July 31. S.K. Jamatia, the spokesperson for the group, stated that since 2018, 1,235 militants from NLFT, ATTF, and BNCT have surrendered, but their five-point demands remain unmet. These demands include economic rehabilitation for all surrendered militants, withdrawal of pending cases against them, and development of their areas.
“If the state government does not address our demands soon, we will consider launching even larger agitations to bring attention to our long-standing issues,” warned Jamatia.
