50th meeting of Meghalaya State Geological Programme Board held

Shillong, Aug 12: The Meghalaya State Geological Programming Board held its 50th meeting on Tuesday chaired by BS Sohliya Secretary, Mining and Geology Department.

The meeting brought together key participants including M B Tongper Director DMR, Dr S.K. Kulshreshtha, Dy Director General , Geological Survey of India, Kuldeep Baruah Gupta , DGM (Geology) , ONGC, Dakshina Rabha, Scientist D from Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Ibrahim Sharif , Deputy Controller of Mines ,Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) Guwahati, Bhaskar Basu Regional Director , AMD along with other officers.

During the meeting, attendees reviewed the projects completed in the past year, highlighting significant achievements and identifying areas for improvement.

The discussions focused on the impact of these projects on the state’s geological and mineral resources.

Looking ahead, the board presented plans for new projects slated for the 2025-26 period.

These initiatives aim to enhance sustainable resource management and promote further geological research and exploration in Meghalaya.

Sohliya impressed on the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of projects that contribute to the state’s economic growth and environmental protection.

Sohliya further emphasised on regular meetings between the various department in sharing geological investigation and increasing mineral exploration thereby contributing to the overall GDP of the state.
