6 GHADC staffers in radar for attempt to block clearing of staff salary payment

Tura: About half a dozen staffers of the account wing of the Finance Department in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council are facing the threat of suspension after they were found deliberately shying away from their duties which included clearing salary slips of the more than 1600 workers.

On Monday, GHADC Secretary Smt Rikse R Marak issued show-cause notices to the six for their alleged dereliction of duty which has hampered and disrupted the release of two months’ salary for hundreds of the staff who agreed to accept the two months salaries issued by the GHADC. The GHADC has close to 1700 working employees. For many, the window of opportunity appears to be shrinking with the ‘deliberate’ attempt at preventing them from obtaining their dues.

“The NGEA leaders met me this morning in my office chamber and during the discussion, I requested them to withdraw their strike because almost all the staff members understand the current financial position and expressed willingness to take the two months dues. There are records showing the employees signing on the salary register accepting the two months’ salaries being given to them,” GHADC Secretary Rikse Marak said during an interaction with HUB NEWS.

A show-cause notice has been given to accounts department Cashiers Jullendro A Sangma, Hunterson P Sangma, Assistant Cashier Balin M Sangma, LDA Rengmin S Sangma, Cash Assistant Shin A Sangma, Office Peon Saljrang R Marak by the GHADC Secretary for allegedly doing the disappearing act despite their presence being spotted in the office on the same day.

The NGEA is also facing a violation of government orders after they went on an office picketing from Tuesday even though they were given provided permission only for a meeting on Monday.
