Williamnagar, Oct 7: The office of the Deputy Commissioner (Election), North Garo Hills district, Resubelpara on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of all political parties to convey the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) approval of new polling stations following the rationalisation process in the district.

Chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election) T.M.G. Momin, the meeting was informed that the ECI, under Section 25 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, has approved the creation of nine new polling stations across three Assembly constituencies in North Garo Hills after due consideration of all required factors.

With the latest approval, the total number of polling stations in the district has increased from 176 to 185.

Under the 37-Kharkutta (ST) Assembly Constituency, new polling stations were created at Tingbagittim (PS-59), Manchang (PS-60) and Chiwaki (PS-61).

In the 38-Mendipathar (ST) Constituency, the new polling stations include Dilma Soksan (PS-37), Balmikram (PS-38), and Damringgre (PS-39).

Meanwhile, for the 39-Resubelpara (ST) Constituency, new polling stations were created at Haluapara (PS-39), New Babukona (PS-40) and Bangalmura (PS-41).

ADC Momin explained that the new polling stations were necessitated as several existing polling stations had elector counts exceeding 1,200 voters, while in some cases, voters were required to cross rivers to reach their designated booths.

Issues and concerns raised by representatives of various political parties were also discussed during the meeting.
