Tura, July 7: The A•chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) has called on the West Garo Hills police to take urgent action in a pending case involving Bappa Ghosh, who is accused of sexually assaulting a tribal minor girl from Misikona village in Garobadha.
In a letter to the District Superintendent of Police, the ASPF expressed concern that nearly a year has passed since the FIR was filed, yet there has been no official update or progress in the investigation.
According to the ASPF, Bappa Ghosh, a resident of Garobadha Bajar and son of Prakash and Nomitha Ghosh Koch, has been missing since August 2, 2024, just after the case was registered at the Garobadha Investigation Centre. The FIR was filed by the victim’s parents with support from local pressure groups, accusing Ghosh of molesting and raping their daughter.
The ASPF said,”this lack of communication and visible action has caused distress to the victim’s family and growing unrest within the tribal community, who continue to wait for justice”.
ASPF leaders Sanjhu T. Sangma and Salgra Ch. Sangma urged the police to provide a clear update on the investigation, step up efforts to find and arrest the accused and ensure the safety and well-being of the victim and her family.
The group also called for better communication between the police, the complainants, and community leaders, stressing the need to treat such sensitive cases with seriousness and urgency.
