Ampati, Nov 17: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was on Thursday felicitated by All Garo Hills Primary Teachers’ Association (AGHPTA) at Ampati in South Garo Hills.

The teachers’ association expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for considering their long pending demand for regularisation of their services.

It may be noted that in 1994, the State Govt took over LP Schools from GHADC, however their services were categorised as “Non Government”.

The association had been demanding regularisation of their services, which was fulfilled recently by the NPP-led MDA Govt.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister reminded the gathering about Lt P A Sangma and his focus to better educational facilities in the State.

“If we have to bring change then we have to give priority to education,” said CM quoting PA Sangma.

“Govt spends close to Rs. 2500 cr on education. Be it primary, deficit or Adhoc, SSA teachers or building infrastructure,” he added.

The Chief Minister further said that the Govt is committed to further increase the investment in the education sector. “We need to invest more in education to bring a turnaround and improve the education scenario in the State,” he said.

“We have numerous challenges be it road-infra, health, farmers welfare, electricity, youth, but we are working for improvement in all areas,” he added.

Informing that in the last 4.5 years the NPP led MDA govt worked hard to improve education, the CM said, “Rs. 250 cr (has been) sanctioned for repair and renovation of school infrastructure across State”.
