Shillong, June 16: The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Thursday slammed the NPP-led state government for failing to resolve the issue related to the employees of the Mawmluh Cherra Cement Ltd (MCCL).

The MDA government has failed to curb or resolve the issue of joblessness in the state of Meghalaya, the party said.

Meghalaya TMC leaders including District Convenor I Diengdoh, Joint Secretary J Sen and TMC Shella candidate, P Khiewtam met the employees of MCCL (Mawmluh Cherra Cement Ltd) who are on an indefinite sit-in and extended their support.

On June 14, Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees Union (MCCEU) began an indefinite sit-in demonstration in front of the MCCL office as a mark of protest against the authorities.

The staff of Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited are demanding a ‘three point’ agenda which includes payment of regular salary to employees besides the arrears, implementation of the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) or the ‘golden handshake’ scheme and an appeal to make the plant operational at the earliest.
