Dibrugarh, Aug 10: Dr Gayatri Gogoi, Associate Professor at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) and Adjunct Researcher at the ICMR–Regional Medical Research Centre, North East, has been conferred the prestigious Blackbuck Pioneer Researcher Award 2025 for her groundbreaking contributions to cancer research.
The award was presented at the Research Summit organised by Medical Dialogues — India’s largest medical news group — and the National Medical Forum in New Delhi on Sunday. The ceremony was attended by Dr Abhijat Seth, Chairperson of the National Medical Commission, and Prof Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati.
The jury panel included the former Director General of ICMR, the Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, the Head of Cardiology at PGI Chandigarh, and senior doctors from across India.
Dr Gogoi, the only doctor from Northeast India to be honoured on the platform alongside leading scientists and physicians from AIIMS Delhi, ICMR, Apollo Hospitals, and Medanta, has earlier received multiple national awards as well as an international award for excellence in cancer care in North Carolina, USA.
With over 50 research publications in peer-reviewed journals, medical textbooks, and book chapters to her credit, she is a member of global bodies such as the American Association for Cancer Research, an International Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, and Chairperson of the Genomic Consortium of North East India.
She has completed eight research projects, with five more underway in collaboration with institutions like IISc Bangalore, AIIMS Delhi, IIT Guwahati, Tezpur University, and ICMR North East. As an honorary member of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust, she has also designed several successful community-oriented cancer care projects.
