Amit Shah to visit Meghalaya on July 17-18, Govt requests meeting with NGOs on ILP

Shillong, July 9: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah will be visiting the state of Meghalaya for two days, i.e. July 17-18, wherein a tight itinerary has been prepared for him. The main programme for him to attend is the North East Chief Minister’s Meet, followed by visits to NESAC and Sohra and inauguration 2-3 projects in the state.

Informing this on Friday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “He (Shah) will be having a meeting with the Chief Ministers of the North East (where) Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police (DGPs) will also be present.”

Shah will also have a meeting with the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) besides inaugurating two-three projects in Shillong and East Khasi Hills.

“The Home Minister will also visit Sohra where he will be inaugurating one project there. At the same time, he will start a new project of tree plantation because there is a massive drive to ensure tree plantation coverage increases in Sohra area,” Sangma said.
Proposal to meet groups on ILP issue (Sub-Head)

On the demand by social organizations to meet the Home Minister to discuss the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state, the Chief Minister said the government has put up the request.

“We have put in the request for them and asked for time. However, we have not got the response yet but I am very hopeful that he will give a positive response on that so we are waiting…,” Sangma said.

He added that he will also be discussing the matter with Shah personally. “Obviously at my level also, I will be discussing these matters with the Union Home Minister and we will see what response we get from there,” he said.
