Ampareen concludes her election campaign at Malki, assures to protect matrilineal society, women’s rights

SHILLONG, APR 17: NPP candidate for Shillong parliamentary seat and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Wednesday concluded her election campaign at Malki ground even as she assured the people to protect the matrilineal society if voted as MP in the Lok Sabha election, to be held on April 19.

“I want to protect the indigenous women’s rights. I will protect matrilineal society. We are unique because we take the surname of a mother,” Lyngdoh said while addressing the election rally.

Urging the people to vote for her, the NPP candidate said, “I also assure you that I will take up with the Central all pending issues of the state.”

She cited that the State Assembly had passed so many resolutions pertaining to the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and others.

She said people are requested to give her a chance to be an MP, so that she will act as a bridge between the Centre and the state.

Stating that she had visited almost all villages across the 36 constituencies in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, Lyngdoh said, “Wherever I go, people have not rejected my candidature. I assure you that if you work hard, NPP will definitely win the Shillong parliamentary seat. Your one vote contributed to our victory is also your victory.”

“I have also gained so much knowledge on the issues faced by the people of the 36 constituencies. Therefore, I promise I will work hard and I will knock on the Centre’s door to address these issues and bring more developments to the state and its people,” she added.

She also thanked the leaders of different political parties for extending their full support to her candidature.

The cabinet minister, who is also a legislator of East Shillong constituency, assured the people of Malki, Laitumkhrah, Lachumiere that she would bring more developments to the constituency if elected as MP.
