ANTF cracks down on narcotics in West Garo Hills, several held

SHILLONG, OCT 13: Several persons were arrested following the recovery of substantial quantities of psychotropic substances in two separate raids conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of West Garo Hills District.

In the first operation, ANTF personnel set up a naka checking point at Tebronggre, Soil Compound area, based on credible information about two suspects transporting psychotropic substances from Phulbari to Tura.

During the operation, two individuals, Johnsbirth R. Marak and Chayang Ch. Marak, were intercepted and searched, leading to the recovery of 2,873 capsules of Senspa+ weighing 1,106.105 grams and 7 capsules of Senspa+ weighing 2.095 grams, respectively, district police chief Abraham T Sangma said on Monday.

In a separate operation on October 11, the ANTF conducted a house search at the residence of Rakizul Sheikh in Patharkata village, resulting in the seizure of 122 reddish tablets, 10 bottles of Tuscorex cough syrup, and 6,022 capsules of Syndex Plus.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway, he said.

The West Garo Hills SP have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or abuse to the nearest police station or control room.
