Imphal, May 29: In a swift and decisive operation, the Indian Army successfully apprehended three miscreants who were armed and carrying ammunition at New Checkon, Manipur.

The operation, undertaken in response to specific intelligence regarding the miscreants’ plans to launch an attack on security forces in the vicinity of the City Convention Centre in Imphal East District, was carried out on May 28, 2023.

Upon receiving the intelligence, the Army promptly mobilized three columns to establish multiple Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) in the targeted area. At approximately 7:30 pm, one of the MVCPs detected a suspicious Maruti Alto car approaching with four occupants. Sensing the presence of security forces, the miscreants quickly disembarked from the vehicle and attempted to escape through the alleys of the nearby colony. However, due to the vigilance and alertness of the troops on the ground, all three miscreants were successfully apprehended, thwarting a potentially catastrophic incident in the region.

During the operation, the security forces recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition, including one INSAS rifle with a magazine, sixty rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade, and one detonator.

Following their capture, the three armed miscreants, along with the seized weapons and ammunition, were handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
