Assam: 4 workers die in landslide at Guwahati; IMD issues red alert for two days

Guwahati, June 14: In a tragic incident, four workers died in landslide at Nizarapar area near Boraagaon in Guwahati on Tuesday. The labourers were residing at the spot where landslide occurred.

They got trapped under the debris and died. Their bodies have been recovered.

Due to heavy rain for the last 24-hours, major streets of Guwahati were waterlogged. The Guwahati Railway station was also flooded with several parts of the city being under water.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya for next two days. The red alert for IMD is a warning for the state disaster management agencies to be on their toes and take precautions to prevent possible eventualities due to excess rainfall.

ASDMA has also issued an advisory and appealed the citizens not to venture out unless absolutely essential. “If your residence is prone to water logging/landslides please consider shifting to a safer location or please contact District Administration at 1077/ 86381 12297,” the advisory stated.
