Khanapara, Nov 29: Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday inaugurated the “Srimanta Sankardeva Block” at the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) whose foundation laying was earlier done by the Governor of Assam.

The Chief Minister was felicitated by the USTM family at the Central Auditorium where he graced the 11th Foundation Day of Udayachal.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM said, “Inclusiveness must be inculcated for growth and excellence. Here at USTM every nook and corner conveys some message. Srimanta Shankardeva, the Vaishnavite saint philosopher and reformer from Assam worked in this direction long back in the 15th century. We are committed to follow his footsteps.”

Hoque also said that USTM will establish a Chair in the name of Sankardeva for research.
Prof G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM said, “USTM is progressing and contributing immensely to the field of higher education in the region. Recently the University has been accredited by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) with “A” Grade in the first cycle of assessment.”

“The university is now planning to focus more on research and innovation which will facilitate it to achieve excellence in the near future and emerge as an “Institute of Excellence”, he added.
