Boko, June 20: The Kamrup district units of the All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), in collaboration with the All Rabha Women Council (ARWC), Sixth Schedule Demand Committee (SSDC), and Jarihat Youth Association, observed Rabha Divas on Friday at Jarihat village near the Assam-Meghalaya border. The event marked the death anniversary of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha and featured a series of cultural and educational programmes throughout the day.

The celebrations began with the hoisting of organisational flags, floral tributes to martyrs, and a homage to the portrait of the legendary cultural icon. An open felicitation session was held to honour 235 Rabha students from Kamrup district who secured first division in the recently declared High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) examinations. Each student was felicitated with a traditional pazar, a certificate of appreciation, and a tree sapling.

The session was inaugurated by ARSU Vice-President Pardip Rabha and featured keynote speaker Bhubin Rabha, a noted folk culture practitioner. Distinguished guests included ARWC President Lalita Rabha, SSDC President Dashanan Rabha, and North East Youth Foundation Director Ranjan Baruah.

The programme also witnessed a vibrant cultural performance by 71 artists, celebrating the legacy of Bishnu Prasad Rabha, fondly remembered for his contributions to Assam’s socio-cultural and political landscape. The day concluded with a cultural evening showcasing local talents.

Dignitaries such as Boko Revenue Circle Officer Divas Bordoloi, Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Chairman Sonaram Rabha, and other council members were present. Leaders from 13 regional units of ARSU, ARWC, and SSDC also actively participated, underscoring the community’s united effort to preserve and promote Rabha heritage.
