Guwahati, May 25: Nearly a month after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam cabinet ministers have begun visiting the families of the 26 victims from the state, offering condolences and delivering financial assistance sanctioned by the state government.
In a solemn gesture of solidarity, ministers last week visited the homes of three victims, handing over ex gratia payments of Rs 5 lakh to each bereaved family. They also delivered personal letters of condolence from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who described the loss as “devastating” and assured the families that “the entire state of Assam stands with you in this hour of grief.”
The Pahalgam massacre, which claimed the lives of 26 people. Responding to the tragedy, the state cabinet earlier this month approved ex gratia assistance of Rs 5 lakh per family and resolved that cabinet ministers would personally visit each of the families to convey the government’s support.
More ministers are expected to visit the remaining families in the coming days.
In his letter, Sarma wrote: “No words can truly ease the pain, and no amount of assistance can ever compensate for the irreparable void left behind… May the departed soul rest in eternal peace, and may you and your family find strength and courage in the days ahead.”
