Guwahati, June 26: In a step forward in its well control efforts, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) on Wednesday achieved a critical milestone at its RDS#147A site in Sivasagar, clearing the way for the crucial snubbing operation scheduled to begin shortly.
Working in tandem with international experts from CUDD Pressure Control, ONGC successfully removed all rig debris — including staircases, tangled wires, and structural elements — and safely dragged out the rig substructure. This accomplishment provides unimpeded access to the wellhead, allowing for the next stage in the complex well-capping procedure.

Preparations are now underway for the deployment of snub lines and equipment. The upcoming operation will involve the careful removal of the existing Blowout Preventer (BOP) and installation of a replacement unit as part of ONGC’s final strategy to safely control the well.
In a precisely coordinated move earlier in the day, hydraulic lines were connected to the BOP to test and operate its rams. The procedure was executed without any increase in gas discharge — a crucial indicator that ONGC’s pressure assessments and operational planning were spot on.

Favourable weather conditions further boosted the day’s operations. With dry skies and a receding Dikhow River reducing flood risks, logistics and site accessibility improved, enabling the teams to maintain high operational efficiency.
ONGC officials expressed optimism about completing the snubbing operation before sundown on Friday, June 27, if weather holds steady. The company reiterated its commitment to safety, technical excellence, and environmental responsibility at every stage of the high-stakes operation.
