Guwahati, Jan 30: With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approaching, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday evening held a closed-door strategy meeting with senior BJP leaders in Guwahati, signalling the party’s early push to consolidate organisation and sharpen its campaign narrative.

The high-level meeting at BJP’s state headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan, was attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP’s Assam election in-charge Baijayant Panda, and other key party functionaries.

Party sources said the deliberations focused on organisational preparedness, booth-level mobilisation, and coordination within the NDA alliance ahead of the crucial 2026 polls. The meeting is seen as part of the BJP’s broader effort to lock in its electoral strategy well ahead of schedule.

Earlier in the day, he laid the foundation stone for the proposed second complex of the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dibrugarh, calling it a landmark step towards strengthening governance and improving administrative access in Upper Assam.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia said the party leadership had given “clear guidance” to approach the upcoming elections with confidence and unity. He said discussions covered both political and organisational calendars, which would soon be translated into action at the grassroots.
Saikia reiterated that the BJP would contest the 2026 elections as part of the NDA, stressing that there is “complete unity” within the alliance in Assam. He said the party would take its development record under the “double-engine government” at the Centre and in the state to the people, with development and a “secure Assam” forming the core themes of the campaign.

Expressing confidence of a fresh NDA mandate, Saikia said voters would once again back the alliance, citing development initiatives undertaken over the past 10–11 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led state government.
