Tura, January 30: Kerala finished the opening day of their U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy 2025-26 clash in a dominant position, ending play with a 62-run lead over host Meghalaya at the Alotgre Cricket Ground on Friday. This is the second BCCI domestic season match that was played at the cricket ground in Alotgre, Tura.
After Kerala won the toss and chose to field, their bowling unit immediately put the hosts under pressure, bowling Meghalaya out for just 106 runs in 38.0 overs. Meghalaya team’s Josiah Momin offered the only significant resistance, who top-scored with 34 runs off 62 balls, including seven boundaries. Other minor contributions came from Manish (17 runs), Shavian (13 runs), and MD Ashif Khan (12 runs). Meghalaya team struggled in their innings as three of their four batters were dismissed for single-digit scores, including a five-ball duck for Pushkar.

In the performance department, Kerala’s bowlers stood out as J S Anuraj lead the way by claiming 4 wickets, with Pavan Raj and Jishnu A taking 3 wickets each to dismantle the Meghalaya lineup.
Kerala’s batters then moved quickly to overhaul the target, reaching 168/2 in 48.0 overs by the close of play. The innings was built on a massive 134-run opening partnership between Akshay S S, who struck 73 off 119 deliveries, and Varun Nayanar, who remains unbeaten on 71(135). Although Meghalaya managed two late breakthroughs via Manish and D Marak, Kerala remains in a powerful position to build a match-winning lead.

With eight wickets still in hand and a healthy lead already established, Kerala looks set to bat Meghalaya for more when the game resumes on Day 2.
