Mairang, Sept 20: In a highly disturbing incident, a class 12 student from Mairang was brutally attacked by unknown miscreants while she was returning home from school.
The female student’s face was attacked by a rock, and the attackers also threatened to slit her throat. Presently, the student is receiving medical treatment at Civil Hospital, Shillong.
According to reports, the incident is said to have happened on Tuesday. The student has been identified as a resident of Lawbyrtun village in Mairang, Eastern West District. She is a student at Mawkyllei Higher Secondary School.
The girl was found in a bad situation by fellow students of the school. They first discovered her sweater in the street, followed by a piece of cloth stained with blood.
These discoveries immediately raised an alarm, and upon hearing cries for help, they found their distressed classmate lying in a pool of blood, her face severely injured.
The victim herself informed that the miscreants assaulted her by smashing her face with a rock and threatening to slit her throat. Also, she was unable to identify her attackers.
Numerous students in the area have been informed about cases involving stone-throwing by unknown persons, as this area is relatively isolated.
In response to this situation, Mairang Police, in collaboration with the Crime Scene Unit of the CID Shillong Department, promptly arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation.
At the time of filing this report, no breakthroughs have been made in identifying the culprits or establishing the motive behind this hindrance crime against the student.
Meanwhile, the investigation is underway.
