Tura, July 2: Third-year B.Sc students from the College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Tura, organised an exhibition showcasing innovative and low-cost teaching aids for young children. Held under the course “Early Childhood Education,” the exhibition aimed to promote developmentally appropriate tools designed to support early learning.

Guided by Dr. Kh. R. Aimol, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the event was part of the students’ practical coursework. The exhibition featured a variety of handmade educational tools that targeted core developmental areas such as fine motor skills, counting, vocabulary building, phonics, and concept formation.

Highlights included the creative use of lichi seeds for counting and threading activities, eco-friendly cardboard tools, and reusable materials promoting sustainability in education. A key feature was the inclusion of teaching aids in the local Garo language, reinforcing the value of mother-tongue learning in early childhood development.

The exhibition was attended by Dean Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad and faculty members, who praised the students’ creativity and practical approach. Dr. Vastrad encouraged students to explore the potential of turning their ideas into community-based entrepreneurial ventures by producing such teaching aids on a larger scale.
