Guwahati, Apr 4: Along with the rest of the state, the people of Guwahati are also busy preparing for Rongali Bihu – the festival of joy and prosperity.

Many Rongali Bihu committees in Guwahati city are gearing up to glamorise the festival in a befitting manner.

On the other hand, as in past years, the Chandmari Rongali Bihu Samitte has taken the initiative to conduct a 10-day Bihu dance and dhol workshop at the Chandmari Engineering field in Guwahati.

This workshop has been organized to propagate the rich Assamese folk culture among the new generation.

The workshop is being conducted under the guidance of one main resource person, Drimli Gogoi, and with 5 assistants. Around 600 children are participating in the workshop.

The General Secretary of Bihu Sanmillan, Simanta Thakuria, said, “Our pub Guwahati Bihu Samiti of Chandmari has completed 63 years. This workshop will run from April 2nd to 11th. So far, 600 children have participated in the workshop, and more people are joining every day. It seems that this figure will reach around 1000. We are doing this so that our new generation can learn the real culture of Assam and we can convey our Assamese culture to the people.”

Also, Bihu dance trainer Drimli Gogoi said, “Bihu workshop is very important. Bihu is our traditional dance, Bhangima. Now if the coming generation learns from workshops like this, then they will be able to understand the true nature of Bihu. Bihu is not just a festival; it is also celebrated on stage and at home. Bihu of Assam has been performed by me in 9 countries around the world. Children who learn from real Bihu can preserve our culture.”

Another Bihu dance trainee said, “I come here every day to learn Bihu because I find it very enjoyable. I feel very excited while singing the Bihu songs of ‘Jojana.’ At first, I feel nervous, but then I adjust. This is the culture of Assam, and it is very special.”
