Bike thieves caught by Garo Hills police, two vehicles recovered

Tura, Nov 3: North Garo Hills police have successfully recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested two criminals in separate incidents following an investigation and a tip off, this week.

The first recovery took place of a scooty that had been stolen from Tura almost two years ago.

On the basis of intelligence inputs, the stolen scooty was recovered by North Garo Hills district Police from the Bajengdoba area.

During its probe police found that the Scooty was lifted from a locality in Tura in the year 2019 and a case was registered at Tura police station. Despite months of investigation it never got traced, until today.

The recovered Scooty was handed over to the rightful owner and the suspect in whose possession the stolen vehicle was found has been arrested and handed over to a police team from Tura police station.

In a separate incident, a man trying to sell off a stolen Bajaj Pulsar bike in Mendal town of Bajengdoba police jurisdiction was caught along with the two wheeler. During interrogation, it was revealed that the man was an active member of a gang said to behind a string of bike thefts.

It was revealed during questioning that the arrested criminal was with the gang that had been stealing motorcycles from Assam and Byrnihat and bringing them over to Garo Hills or distant towns for sale, so as to avoid detection.

The arrested lifter has been handed over to Byrnihat police since a stolen motorcycle case is already registered in Ri-Bhoi.

In a span of 9 days time, a total of 2 stolen bikes and 1 stolen Scooty have been recovered. Therefore, request every citizen to check & verify properly before buying any second hand vehicle/bike from any unknown person.
