Shillong, Feb 11: With the elections for Meghalaya Assembly odd one year away, BJP national vice president in-charge Meghalaya Dr Chuba Ao on Friday informed that the party would soon prepare for the 2023 Assembly polls. At the same time, he launched a veiled attack at State BJP president Ernest Mawrie asking the latter to visit constituencies and meet leaders instead of sitting in his office.

Speaking to reporters, Dr Ao said that he has already apprised the central leaders of the need to start the ground works for the coming elections.

“We have to brief our workers that we should work at the grassroot level. All these we have to start very soon,” he added.

Dr Ao also urged the BJP state president Ernest Mawrie to be proactive in organizing the party for the upcoming Assembly polls.

“The president should not sit in the office, he should go to every constituency and interact with the people and interact with the intending candidates also and start working as ten months is hardly 300 days, he has to work right now,” he stated.

If the BJP is open for a pre-poll alliance with like-minded political parties ahead of 2023, Dr Ao however said that the party has not decided on the matter.

“When elections come according to the situation, we will see,” he said. On the other hand, the BJP leader said that people come to the BJP for alliance and not otherwise. “We are ruling in India, people come to us for alliance, it is not that we will go and seek alliance with other parties,” he added.
