Shillong, Feb 11: The decision of the Congress legislators in the state to support the NPP-led MDA government isn’t sitting well with the State BJP, who insists on clarification from the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, but also doesn’t want to leave the coalition. This political development has also further revealed the two camps in BJP having different thoughts.
While BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said he will write a letter to the Chief Minister seeking his clarification on accepting the Congress MLAs support, BJP national vice-president in-charge of Meghalaya Dr Chuba Ao maintained that BJP will not move out of the MDA coalition.
“We are confused and also disappointed with the chief minister so we will be writing to him and will seek a clarification,” said Mawrie. He said the letter will be sent to the CM on Monday.
Mentionably, while Mawrie has maintained that there is no infighting in the state BJP and that no one has approached him on their unhappiness with his leadership, Dr Ao has stated that leaders have approached him against the working style of Mawrie and sought his ouster.
In fact, the anti- Mawrie has already welcomed the decision of the Congress MLAs joining MDA and praised Conrad Sangma’s leadership for attracting more and more leader to join the coalition.
However, Dr Ao has added that it will drop the matter if it receives an official record that Congress wants to support the MDA. “We just need the clarification from the Chief Minister because one should remember that BJP in the past had a slogan of Congress-Mukt (Bharat),” he said.
