Breakthrough in Mendal murder, police nabs alleged murderer within 24 hours

Tura, Aug 2: Within a span of a couple of hours, North Garo Hills police successfully made a breakthrough in the murder of a man from Mendal village by arresting the alleged murderer and recovering the dagger used in the gruesome killing.

A 27-year-old man, Daniel Sangma, was found murdered while asleep inside his room in Mendal village of Bajengdoba on Sunday morning with his throat slit and multiple wounds by a sharp weapon.

According to North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Abraham T Sangma, the prime accused in the murder identified as Sengkubirth Ch Marak was arrested from Bolpuma village under Tapa Darenchi area from the same district late on Sunday night. Police recovered the dagger used in the murder and also found in the possession of the accused the mobile phone and a motorcycle that belonged to the murdered victim.

“We have interrogated the accused during which he confessed that he committed the crime in the early hours of Sunday morning, while the victim was asleep due to personal enmity,” stated SP Abraham Sangma.
