BSF chief reviews security in Manipur

Imphal, May 26: Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Daljit Singh Chawdhary, concluded a two-day visit to Manipur, focusing on assessing the prevailing law and order situation and encouraging deployed personnel amid ongoing ethnic tensions.

Arriving in Imphal on May 24, DG Chawdhary was received by senior officials, including Manipur’s Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, BSF Additional Director General (Eastern Command) Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, and other senior BSF officers.

During his visit, the BSF chief held separate meetings with Manipur’s Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh to review the security landscape. He also addressed officers and troopers at the BSF’s sector headquarters in Koirengei through a ‘Sainik Sammelan’, with personnel from various districts participating via video conference.

DG Chawdhary visited BSF units deployed in the fringe areas of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, interacting with troopers and commending their dedication to maintaining peace and security. He also inspected the 10th Battalion BSF headquarters at Loktak, encouraging personnel to sustain their efforts in upholding stability in the region.

The visit comes in the backdrop of ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which began in May 2023 and has resulted in significant casualties and displacement.
