BTC govt swearing-in deferred to Oct 5

Must read

Guwahati, Sept 28: The oath-taking ceremony of the new Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government has been rescheduled to October 5 to avoid a clash with Durga Puja celebrations.

The decision to defer the event by two days was taken after consultations between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

BTC leader Hagrama Mohilary, who recently met the Chief Minister, held extensive discussions on administrative gaps and governance challenges in the council. While no immediate decisions were announced, both leaders are expected to reconvene after the swearing-in for detailed deliberations.

Mohilary was accompanied by senior leaders including Durga Das Boro, Rihon Daimary, and Rabiram Narzary, underscoring a show of unity in the party’s leadership ahead of the transition.

In the recently concluded elections, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) emerged victorious with 28 seats, while the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) secured 7 seats and the BJP bagged 5 seats.

The BTC administers the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), comprising the districts of Baksa, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Tamulpur, and Udalguri. The incoming council is expected to prioritize stability, expedite development projects, and address governance concerns raised in recent months.
