Shillong, Sept 29: In a significant breakthrough, the state police have arrested two drug suppliers from Manipur along with heroin worth Rs 2.5 crore at 8th Mile in West Jaintia Hills district on Sunday.

Acting on credible intelligence gathered over four days, police stopped a TATA vehicle (Registration No. ML05 K 2315) arriving from Silchar, Assam and arrested the two drug suppliers identified as Chuchung Serto from Nakhunjang, Kangpokpi, Manipur, and Thanggin Towthang from Songpehh, Churachandpur, Manipur, district police chief Jagpal Dhanao said.

“50 soap boxes weighing 512.63 grams which tested positive for heroine with the
marker value of Rs 2.5 crores,” he said while adding that Rs 6,775 in Indian currency, ₩3,000 in South Korean Won, ₸500 in Kazakhstan Tenge, 10 Burmese currency notes, and two mobile phones were also seized from their possession.

A case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances (NDPS) Act is being registered and follow-up investigations are in progress to trace
the supply chain and identify any larger network or cross-border links, the SP said.

The department reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the community from narcotics and calls on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, he added.
