Amid Assam's flood fury, a midnight rescue offers a ray of hope

Guwahati, July 25: Amid the devastation caused by the ongoing floods in Assam, a heartwarming act of courage unfolded in Sivasagar, where municipal workers braved darkness and rising waters to rescue an elderly woman trapped inside her flooded home.

The dramatic rescue took place late Friday night on BG Road, where a team from the Sivasagar Municipal Board waded through knee-deep floodwaters after receiving information that a woman in her eighties was stranded and unable to evacuate.

With electricity knocked out across the area, the rescuers relied on the flashlights of their mobile phones to navigate the submerged streets and reach the house. Battling poor visibility and hazardous conditions, they safely evacuated the ailing woman and shifted her to a secure location for medical care.

The operation has won praise from residents, who described it as a shining example of compassion and dedication at a time when thousands across the state are battling one of Assam’s worst flood spells in recent years.
