Security forces nab top UKNA leader in Manipur, recover extortion notes

Imphal, July 25: In a major crackdown on militant activities, security forces have arrested a self-styled senior cadre of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), described as a high-value target, during a joint operation in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

The Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police apprehended S Palal Thadou alias Lalboi Singson (45) from Molnom village on July 23 following specific intelligence inputs about his presence in the area.

According to security officials, the arrested militant was the outfit’s self-styled Finance Secretary and was allegedly involved in large-scale extortion as well as several firing incidents linked to the UKNA.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the security forces cordoned off the village and successfully apprehended him. During the operation, extortion notes and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession.

Officials described the operation as a major success in the ongoing efforts to curb militant activities and restore peace in the region, saying the arrest is expected to significantly strengthen security in the state.
