Kohima, July 25: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has stepped up relief and rescue operations across the state as the ongoing monsoon continues to trigger landslides and disrupt road connectivity in several districts.

With road access to Mon and Longleng cut off, the NSDMA requisitioned Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters to evacuate stranded passengers and airlift essential relief supplies. A State government helicopter was also deployed to support the operation.

Over July 23 and 24, the IAF evacuated 148 stranded people, including 43 from Mon and 105 from Longleng, while the State helicopter rescued another 41 passengers from Mon, taking the total number of evacuees to 189.

Among those rescued were students and candidates appearing for the Nagaland Public Service Commission’s Combined Educational Services Examination (CESE), ensuring they could travel despite the disruption caused by the monsoon.

Relief operations have also expanded to affected areas, with additional consignments of essential supplies dispatched by road to Tuli and Patizung Ward. Ration assistance was provided to stranded and displaced families in Changtongya.

The state government has further released emergency financial assistance to families affected by landslides in Wokha, Shamator and Zunheboto districts, as authorities continue relief and restoration efforts across Nagaland.
